Today, the internet is as much a part of our society as our homes and work places. And, by working to make sure it’s used as a force for good, we’re committed to it being a positive public benefit.
At the most basic level, we do this by providing a trusted online home for millions of British businesses. But we also try to maximise the positive impact of the internet in other ways.
These are just some of the things we do to make a difference:
In 2008 we established Nominet Trust, a foundation that funds charitable causes benefitting over 10 million people. Since then we’ve donated over £35 million to support the great work they do around the country.
We work closely with international organisations in the internet sphere, including the international body responsible for domain names, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), where matters of how the internet is run are discussed.
The Nominet Internet Awards celebrate all sorts of organisations which have made using the internet a more secure, accessible and diverse experience for all. The awards always receive plenty of support, from MPs, industry leaders, civil institutions, businesses, academia and public sector organisations, among others. Awards categories range from internet security to most innovative internet business.
We don’t just support those joining our .uk registry – we care about the end users too. Our Knowthenet campaigns teach consumers about a whole range of topics, including privacy on social media, internet trolling, and helping parents talk to their children about staying safe online.
