Click Start and Bath Spa University: One Year On

12th June 2024

Back in May 2023, Bath Spa University launched its Click Start programme. Fast forward to 2024, and we’re already celebrating its first anniversary!

Click Start is an ambitious programme, funded by Nominet and developed by the Institute of Coding. Collaborating with universities and third sector organisations across the country, it provides people from underrepresented backgrounds with the tools, skills, experience and support they need to get jobs in the digital sector.

Bath Spa is one of these universities leading the charge with its own Click Start programme in partnership with social mobility charity, Catch22.  These have been a game-changer for young adults (aged 18-30) across Bath and Bristol. With the university and charity’s support, over 150 ambitious learners have already jumped headfirst into courses upskilling in digital marketing, UI/UX design, and web development. These aren’t just basic skills; they’re the kind that can create a career in creative and tech fields.

The anniversary event earlier this year wasn’t just about pizza and networking (although there was plenty of it). It shone a spotlight on the success stories and hard work of the many learners who have already made progress towards their new digital careers. We spoke to those that had set up their own digital marketing businesses, built their own websites to promote their work, and learners that had already landed their dream jobs. It was inspiring to hear first-hand the difference that this initiative has made to their lives.

Nationally, Click Start offers a whole host of courses, both in-person and virtual, to suit different lifestyles and circumstances. And not only does it give learners essential digital skills, but it also equips them with the soft skills to ace interviews, develop their employability skills, and climb the career ladder.

Click Start courses are currently open for registration up and down the country. If you (or someone you know) are interested in joining – why not see what’s available?
