About online services

You can use the Online Services tool to update your contact details, transfer your domain name, change your registrar and cancel your domain name. Alternatively, you can get in touch with your registrar for support with some of these actions.

To access Online Services, log in using the email address you used to register your domain name, with your password. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be able to view all the domain names that you registered with that email address.

Useful Information about using your account to manage your domain

If you haven’t logged in before, click here and use the first time logging in section to request an email to be sent to you. This will contain a link to help you set up a new password. It will be sent to the email address you registered with your domain name.

If you don’t receive this password email, it might be that the email address you entered isn’t the one held with your domain name. If you’d like to check or update this email address, please get in touch with your registrar, who will be able to help you change your details. Please note, we won’t be able to send this password email to any address other than the one listed in your registration details.

If you no longer have accesses to the email address that we have listed for you and are unable to update this through your registrar, you can re-confirm your identity and contact details directly with us. The fee to re-confirm your identity and update the email address that we hold against your domain name is £10 plus VAT.

To request an email containing a link to reset your password, click here and use the first time logging in or forgotten password function. The email will be sent to the email address you registered with your domain name.

Two Factor Authentication or 2FA is a two step verification process that provides an extra layer of security for your Online Services account. This is based on time based passcodes issued by authenticator applications. Google Authenticator is a widely used application that is also recommended by Nominet; another frequently used one is Authy.

By reducing the risk of an intruder or attacker gaining access to your Online Services account, 2FA provides a higher level of protection for you and your data.

To keep our registry secure, we rely on all our registrants to make sure their details are true and up to date, particularly the email address, as this is how we send you important updates. So if any of your details change, it’s important to let us know. If you need to update your details, your registrar should be your first port of call as they’ll be able to change them on your behalf.

You can also update your contact details directly with us using your Online Services account. Once you’ve logged in, view your list of domain names and simply edit either your registrant name or your contact details.

Any changes to postal or email addresses will be processed immediately. But we can’t complete changes to registrant names until they’ve been reviewed by one of the Nominet team.

Complete our simple Registrant Transfer process to transfer your domain name to another person. Before you begin, make sure you have the email address of the new registrant to hand.

First, sign into your Online Services account. Then follow these simple steps:

  1. Choose the domain name(s) you’d like to transfer
  2. Select ‘Transfer Domains(s) and read the information carefully
  3. Enter the email address of the person you’re transferring it to
  4. Choose who will pay for the transfer
  5. Tick the declaration confirming that you are the current registrant, or that the current registrant has authorised you to transfer the domain name

We’ll send an email to the new address you supplied, asking the new registrant to provide us with their details and accept the transfer. They’ll then be able to ask to move to a new registrar at no extra charge.

The fee for transferring a domain name is £10 plus VAT, which can be paid by either the current or new registrant during the transfer process.

To switch your domain name to another registrar, contact your current registrar and they should be able to complete this change for you.

If for some reason your registrar can’t carry out this change, you can move to a different registrar yourself through your Online Service account. Before doing this, we recommend you let the new registrar know that you’ll be switching your domain(s) to them.

First, sign into your Online Services account. Then follow these simple steps:

  1. Choose the domain name(s) you’d like to move
  2. Select ‘Change Registrar’ and read the information carefully
  3. Enter the tag name of your new registrar, review the details and pay the fee

Some Registrars may have an ‘electronic handshake’ set up on their account, which means they’ll need to manually accept any domain name being moved onto their tag. If they don’t accept your request within five days, your domain name will stay with the current registrar, and you’ll receive a full refund of the fee you paid.

The fee for changing your registrar using the Online Service is £10 plus VAT.

You can use your Online Services account to cancel your domain name. Remember – you should only cancel a domain name if you’re absolutely sure you no longer need it. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Choose the domain name(s) you would like to cancel
  2. Select ‘Cancel Domain(s)’ in your Online Services account and read the information carefully
  3. Review the final warning and complete the cancellation

Once you’ve scheduled a domain name to be cancelled, we’ll remove it from the register on that same day, at some point before midnight. It will then become available for anyone to register.
