19 September 2023: Nominet is excited to announce its competition for primary schools across the UK to win £5,000 towards a Digital Classroom.
Earlier this year, Nominet – the guardians of the .UK domain – launched an ambitious project with BBC Education and the Micro:bit Educational Foundation, donating almost 700,000 devices for all UK primary schools. This means that every UK primary school has the chance to get 30 free devices each to promote computational thinking, inspire digital creativity and enrich the curriculum with exciting and pioneering machine learning lessons.
In September, UK primary schools can also enter a free monthly prize draw to win £5000 to purchase digital equipment for their classroom. The competition will be running from September 2023 to July 2025. Schools can apply via the entry form on the Nominet website.
Paul Fletcher, CEO of Nominet commented: “Since BBC micro:bit – the next gen campaign launched in May, over 73% of primary schools in the UK have signed up to get free devices for their classroom. And we don’t want any schools missing out. At Nominet, we are passionate about giving young people the skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world, and the resources for teachers to deliver this learning. This new competition is an amazing opportunity for schools upgrade their existing equipment, and we can’t wait to see what the winners do with their funds.”
If they haven’t already, all primary schools can register on the BBC micro:bit website to get a set of devices for their school and a resource pack between September 2023 and March 2024. However, it is not necessary for a primary school to have registered for the devices yet to enter the prize draw – full T&Cs and entry information can be found on the Nominet website.
